Playoff Chances

No one in Region 1 is in the playoffs yet, and only Roy has been officially playing the role of spoiler.  What are the chances of making the playoffs of each team?  There is also the probability, a very good one, of a three-way tie for first place.  And I am not sure at this point who would end up winning the second tiebreak.  But Syracuse has the best non-region record of the three and the tie break, if all three end up tied, should favor the Titans.

Davis

Davis has a bye this week.  But they can still clinch a playoff spot.  If both Viewmont and Syracuse win, there is no way for either Fremont of Weber to or the teams below these two in the standings to get ahead of the Darts.  Davis has the head to head tiebreak against Syracuse should Viewmont loose.

Syracuse

Has Weber at home on Friday.  Then a week off before taking on Layton at LCP.  They can clinch a playoff spot if they win and Viewmont wins...some logic that Davis has.  They have the head to head tiebreak against Viewmont should the Darts loose another as well as the best non-region schedule.

Viewmont

Has Fremont at home on Friday.  No bye, however.  Afterwords they travel to Roy and finish at home against Clearfield.  Given this, if the tie break comes to point differential, the Vikings finish with a couple of teams that they could run-up a high score against.  They have the head to head tie break over Davis.  Of the three first-place teams, Viewmont has the extra non-region game.  This year, it hurts them.  If they win on Friday, they clinch as the Vikings would earn a tiebreaker over Fremont and hold the tiebreak over Weber.

Fremont

Fremont has to travel to Viewmont and finishes a week early at home against Davis.  With a little luck, they are still in the hunt for a region title.  But, they could end up out of the playoffs as they have two real tough games ahead.  They also loose on the tiebreaker with Weber.  It is likely that the Silver Wolves loose both remaining games and end up out of the playoffs.

Weber

Has three games left and likely needs to win at least one of them and probably two to make the playoffs.  They have been playing well and are in control of their destiny.  They own the head to head tie breaker against Fremont.  I would not want Weber down the stretch or in the first round of the playoffs this year.  They have Syracuse on Friday.  They finish vs Latyon and at Northridge.

Layton, Clearfield and Northridge

Each of these three teams will be out with one more loss.  And Latyon and Clearfield meet at Falcon field on Friday, so at least one of the two will be officially done.  These three need to win out in order to have any hope.

As note, my son goes to Cleafield and has one of the assistant football coaches as a Geometry teacher.  I had Parent/Teacher conferences yesterday.  This particular coach is looking a little stressed right now.  The football players I saw hanging out around the new gym looked like they still have the swagger, but the coaches know what is at stake on Friday.

Roy

No playoffs for the Real Roy.  They can spoil the season for three schools before the season is over beginning with Northridge of Friday.  If they beat the Knights, Northridge will join them on the sidelines.
