Saving The WAC...A New Conference?

I have seen rumors, but I have not been able to confirm them that a new conference will form out of the ashes of the WAC once the move of Utah State and San Jose State to the Mountain West as replacements from Air Force and Boise State are official.  The plan is for the five remaining football members of the WAC to invite schools from the Big Sky and possibly Southland Conference that are ready to compete at the next level and form a new football conference.

Again, I have not been able to confirm this other than seeing twitter reports stating that Idaho is ready to "euthanize the WAC" and move on.  And that the Big Sky Conference is "preparing for D-IA defections."

However, the "euthanize the WAC" comment may refer to a push by Idaho to be included in the MWC.

Those are rather cryptic twitter posts and may mean nothing...after all, they come from twitter.  But if this is true, here is the conference I see moving forward...

UC Davis
Idaho
Louisiana Tech
New Mexico State
Montana
Montana State
Texas State
Texas San Antonio
Sacramento State

Let me emphasize, this is not teams being invited to the WAC...this would be a new conference.  I would be certain, if this is true, that UC Davis and Sac State would defiantly be involved.  I am not certain about Montana and Montana State who seem content with the FCS.   Other schools that could be involved instead include; SF Austin, Sam Houston State, Weber State, Cal Poly and Northern Arizona.

Stay tuned...
