Report on the Games

Utah State 34 San Jose State 33

Once again Adam Kennedy leads the Aggies for a 4th quarter comeback.  USU trailed 33-21 with 6 minutes remaining in the game.  Kennedy led the Aggies on a pair of long drives to put USU ahead with 41 seconds remaining.  The Spartans had the ball last, but a 67 yard field goal attempt was blocked.  Utah State won in spite of giving up 4 turnovers.  Utah State can keep their slim bowl hopes alive next week under the Kibbie Dome at Idaho.

MVP: Robert Turpin

Weber State 34 Northern Arizona 31

In Ron McBride's last home football game as a head coach, Weber came from behind to defeat the Lumberjacks.  NAU held a 27-24 lead at the beginning of the 4th quarter.  CJ Tuckett, a member of the running game committee, had 257 yards rushing and scored 3 touchdowns.  The final score for the Wildcats came with 26 seconds remaining on a running play from quarterback Mike Hoke.  Weber State can not finish with a winning record this season, but can play spoiler next week and possibly ruin Portland State's bid for the post season by beating the Vikings at Jeld Wenn Field in Ron McBride's final game as a head football coach.

MVP: CJ Tuckett

Northern Iowa 34 Southern Utah 21

The Thunderbirds were not able to maintain their slim hopes at the FCS post season.  SUU jumped to a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter, but the game was all Panthers from that point on.  Austin Minefee was good early in the game, scoring a rushing touchdown and returning a kickoff for a touchdown.  But the Panther defense stiffened. The T-Birds will conclude the season in next week's Grand Canyon Cup (my name for it) in Flagstaff against Northern Arizona.

SUU MVP: Austin Minefee

BYU 42 Idaho 7

BYU starting QB Riley Nelson broke a rib, but it wasn't completely ugly for Idaho.  But it was close.  Princeton McCardy broke through on an 82 yard touchdown run late in the third quarter to give the Idaho faithful a reason to cheer.

MVP: Cody Hoffman
