HS Week 3

Region 1 Week 3

Weber's offense rolled the first week of the season and has been absent since. The Warriors went to Kaysville and were stalled as Davis Rolled. Tanner Russell had his best game of the year as the Titans continued to roll, this time over Viewmont. Roy's woes contined in Washington Terrace against the Lakers. Fremont jumps all over Clearfield in Plain City. And in the barn burner of the year so far, Northridge comes from behind, gets 16 in the final quarter and beats Layton 29-26.

Offensive Player of the Week: Syracuse QB Tanner Russell and Northridge WR Colton Hill and Davis RB Tanner Hinds all with gems deserving of the honor.
Defensive TEAM of the Week: Davis
Game of the Week: Northridge 29 Layton 26 (Game of the year so far.)

Week 3 Power Rankings

1. Syracuse Titans (3-0, 2-0)
2. Davis Darts (2-1, 2-0)
3. Northridge Knights (2-1, 1-1)
4. Fremont Silver Wolves (2-1, 2-0)
5. Viewmont Vikings (1-2, 1-1)
6. Layton Lancers (1-2, 0-1)
7. Weber Warriors (1-2, 0-2)
8. Clearfield Falcons (1-2, 0-2)
9. Roy Royals (0-3, 0-1)

Next Week's Games

Roy at Clearfield--The Falcon homecoming game is the best chance the Royals have at a win this season.
Davis at Syracuse--Winner takes the driver's seat in the region. Which Tanner will have the big game? Davis's Hinds or Syracuse's Russell?
Fremont at Weber--An early rivalry battle. Weber needs the win more than Fremont does. The Wolves would love to keep rolling after a week 1 setback. Weber needs to get their offense back on track.
Northridge at Bonneville--Are the Lakers are region 1 team? This is their third HOME game against a Region 1 team. (Layton week 1; Roy Week 3) The Lakers have trouble against teams from Layton. The Bonneville-Layton rivalry was big in the 80s, then came Northridge. Also, I know that there is also some resentment at Bonneville for Clearfield taking the state title from them back in the early 90s.
Viewmont at Layton--The is a must-win game for both teams. Both are outside the playoffs looking in. (Top four teams from each region) The winner gets back into the region race. The looser faces a long, up-hill battle for the post season and will likely be out of the region title race.

I will not have my college power rankings until tomorrow. Colorado and Colorado State have their grudge match on Sunday. But BYU and Utah are both off to good starts. BYU is not going to cruise the rest of the season because they have to travel to New Orleans to take on Tulane next week and then they host Florida State. Utah gets San Jose State on the road, and belive me, the Spartans will be ready for the Utes. Then the Crimson get to go to Oregon where almost no one wins. But I would not be surprised to see this year's Holy War once again be billed as the "biggest one in history, part 3." Guess who will be on top of the MWC power rankings?
