Hammer down and rollin.

Region 1 Week 5

When choosing a game of the week, you choose a game that would be exciting to watch as a neutral observer. One with crisp execution by both teams and lots of lead changes or a last second score to win. There was no such game this week. Week 5 featured some dominating performances. The Clearfield Falcons took the long bus ride to Lehi and won by 3 scores. The biggest surprise was the way that Viewmont put the hammer down on Northridge. Austin Cheney had the game that many of the experts thought he had in him from the beginning of the season. Layton's Adam Bunting had a good game, but only crossed the goal line once as the Darts dominate again. Someone will look past Roy sometime this season, but Weber did not do that this week. And there was one second half lead change. Fremont could not hold a half-time lead against Syracuse as the Titans take down the Silver Wolves.

I never explained the rationale for choosing a defensive team instead of a defensive player. On offense, you can have an outstanding individual performance that can determine the game. On defesnse, and individual performance will never get the job done. Time and time again, I have seen one player have an incredible game on defense but have seen the rest of the team steamrolled. I also consider the competition.
