Bad luck for the Utes

Jordan Wynn will have season ending surgery.  He should apply for and get a medical redshirt.  It is apparent that Utah has Pac-12 talent, but not Pac-12 depth.  It will take a couple of seasons for Whittingham's program to build it.

This should also be a warning for BYU Cougar Fans should they receive and accept a Big 12 invite.  You lose a couple of star players and bam, the season is over.  In order to play with the big boys, you need to have shark teeth.

This means that the backup is just as capable as the starter at running things.  While Utah does not have a credible backup at quarterback, this season, they have some recruits coming in that look real good.  It 3 to 5 years, the shark teeth will be set up and ready.

BYU is stacked at quarterback, so they say, at least at the talent end of the spectrum.  One problem with having so much talent is that you never know how a person will perform on the field of play until they get the opportunity.  You hope for someone fearless like Chuckie Keeton.  But sometimes you get someone who is a little more mistake prone like Jake Heaps.  You simply hope that the backup is ready to go.

The first season for Utah in the PAC-12 may turn into a bust, or Jon Hays may turn into another Chuckie Keeton.  Hopefully, the latter, so that the season and a bowl game for Utah can be salvaged.
