I have not blogged for a while. It became obvious to me once TCU crushed the Cougars how the MWC race would turn out. The only real surprise was that Colorado State got to a bowl game. There was not surprise that Guy was canned at Utah State. The suprise in the WAC was how badly Fresno faded in the late season. I was disappointed that Weber State did not do better against Eastern Washington, but not surprised. Mac had trouble getting the Utes motivated for games that did not mean too much...which is what eventually cost him the job on the hill. Most people are thrilled at how Weber State did this year in football. Unfortunately, they will not do that well in Basketball. This may become the few years since the Dee Events Center opened in 1977 that Weber State draws a higher average attendence for football than basketball.
On my Fire Orrin Hatch blog, I mentioned my fear that Utah could loose as many as five of our pro sports teams this year. It is that bad. We have lost the Blaze. I give the AFL little chance of returning...it has rarely happened. Here are my odds of Utah Sports teams going away.
1. Blaze 1 to 10,000 chance against them returning.
2. Fash 1000 to 1 chance that they will fold.
3. Grizzlies 1000 to 1 chance that they will fold.
4. Owlz 500 to 1 chance that they will fold.
4. Raptors 500 to 1 chance that they will fold.
5. Real Salt Lake 3 to 2 chance that they will survive.
6. Bees 100 to 1 chance that they will survive.
7. Jazz 50,000 to 1 chance that they will survive.
The Flash are in trouble because the money for the NBADL will likely dry up before the end of the season.
The Grizzlies league will survive, but the team has not done well since being demoted.
If baseball needs to cut, the rookie leagues will go away.
MLS may contract a couple of teams, but has a good economic plan. RSL will not be contracted because they do have their own stadium. My odds are based upon the whole league folding.
The sports enterprises owned by the Miller family are the least likely to go away.
